Design the Mayor’s Christmas Card competition

• Children’s Christmas card competition launched
• Two age groups, offering three gift voucher prizes
• Overall winner will have their design made into the Mayor’s Christmas card 

Tamworth Borough Council is inviting children of all ages to get creative and design a new festive greeting card that the Mayor of Tamworth, Councillor Moira Greatorex can send out as her official Christmas card this year.

Each year, the mayor sends a Christmas card to Staffordshire civic heads and local community groups and care homes, and this year will feature an extra special card design, from one of our borough’s talented youngsters.

The competition is open to two age groups; for children eight and under and for children nine and above. A winner will be chosen from each age group for an e-Christmas card design for the Leader, Councillor Jeremy Oates and the Chief Executive, Andrew Barratt. Then an overall winner will be picked for a printed card design that the Mayor, Councillor Moira Greatorex will use.

Designs should include a Tamworth Christmas scene. This could be a snowy Tamworth Castle, Christmas shopping in the town centre, St Editha’s Church with Christmas lights, or maybe a snowman within a local setting?

Entries can be drawn, painted, or even a collage design. Once completed please post to Tamworth Borough Council, Marmion House, Lichfield Street, Tamworth, B79 7BZ, or drop into the TIC in the Tamworth Assembly Rooms. Also include the child’s name and age.

Closing date is Tuesday, November 15, so why not take part in creating a bit of Christmas joy as we lead up to the festive period? 

Councillor Tina Clements, Cabinet member for Engagement, Civic Pride and Pride in Place said: “It’s tradition for the Mayor, to send a Christmas card to local groups and civic heads. This year, as part of my new role as Cabinet member of Engagement, Civic Pride and Pride in Place, the Mayor and I felt we wanted to have a personal Tamworth design created by a local young person as the Christmas card this year.

“This Christmas will be different for many as we feel the pinch with cost-of-living increases, but Christmas is far from cancelled and what better way to get into the spirit than getting creative and designing a festive scene.  

The Mayor, Councillor Moira Greatorex, said: “It will be an honour to have my Christmas card designed by a local child and I’m looking forward to seeing the artwork. Good luck everyone!”

The chosen winners will each receive gift vouchers prizes and the overall winner will see their card in print.
