Thousands pay respects at amazing We Will Remember tribute

The community of Tamworth united for an extra special Remembrance Day event, marking 100 years since the end of World War One.
Thousands of people came into Tamworth town centre on Sunday, November 11 to pay their respects; lining the streets to support an extended parade and gathering in the Castle Grounds as choirs sang and poppy confetti was fired into the air.
We Will Remember was organised by Tamworth Borough Council’s Arts & Events team to round off four years of special events in honour of the World War One years.

Tamworth Borough Council’s Arts & Events team have celebrated scooping an award at The Big Draw Festival Awards Ceremony 2017, which took place on Saturday, September 29, at The Walker Art Gallery in Liverpool.

Girlguiding Tamworth jumps on board bus shelter project

A century of Girlguiding in Tamworth is being celebrated with the transformation of a bus shelter which will be given a colourful new makeover thanks to youngsters from across the town.

Members of all 30 Girlguiding units in the Tamworth Division were able to take part in the project and get creative by coming up with drawings of their favourite characters and activities for the bus shelter’s new look.

‘Our Aethel’ due to come home this week as statue is installed

More than a year of consultations, designing, planning and back-breaking labour will come to an end this week when Tamworth’s brand new warrior queen sculpture finally returns home to be revealed to the public for the first time.
Although pictures shared throughout the design process have provided glimpses of the huge sculpture of Tamworth’s Lady of the Mercians, Aethelflaed, only a couple of people have seen the six-metre tall steel figure put together in its entirety – and the overall effect promises to be ‘surprising and unique’.
