See Tamworth Assembly Rooms’ touring exhibition in new location this January

A touring digital exhibition showcasing almost 130 years of Tamworth Assembly Rooms’ history has moved to its next location in the town.
The exhibition features old photographs, memories, press cuttings, flyers and historic architect drawings, as well as ambitious redevelopment plans for the iconic theatre’s next 130 years.
Members of the public are invited to view the display, which is stored on a tablet, as it tours various locations throughout the town, and share their own memories of the building at the heart of the community.

In the last few weeks it feels like we’ve made good progress on the Assembly Rooms refurbishment project.  Our technical specialists, Adlib, have helped us bring our concepts for improving the technical infrastructure to a completed design and I’ve been telling everyone in the office about how great it’s all going to be.  So they’ve asked me to write a piece for the blog to tell everyone else what’s in the pipeline and why we’re so passionate about it.

As we prepare to mark 100 years since the end of World War One, we’ve also been remembering the part that was played by Tamworth people in support of the war effort.
Tamworth Assembly Rooms has been at the heart of the town for 129 years, not just as a theatre, but as a community hub with a variety of purposes.

You may have noticed over the past weeks that the exterior walls of The Assems have started to stand out a bit more beneath its currently scaffold cladded façade. Amongst the series of works being undertaken to restore the building, a key focus has been to restore the original stonework. 

Let there be light! Original windows uncovered as part of Tamworth Assembly Rooms refurbishment

Original windows of the main auditorium at Tamworth Assembly Rooms are being uncovered and restored as part of a major project to transform the historic theatre into a modern venue fit for 21st century audiences.
Work to refurbish the building is progressing well with many noticeable changes taking place since principal contractors, Novus Property Solutions, started on site at the end of last year.

Drama festival success for Tamworth theatre groups

 

An exciting four-night run of theatre was an outstanding success last month following the 2018 Tamworth Hastilow Drama Festival, featuring a series of one act plays by the region’s best amateur dramatic groups.

Nine adult and youth theatre companies from Tamworth and the wider area competed throughout the festival, with up to three plays being performed each night from Wednesday, March 14, to Saturday, March 17.

Tamworth Assembly Rooms exhibition goes on tour

A digital touring exhibition for Tamworth Assembly Rooms sets off in May as the historic building continues to undergo a major refurbishment.

The project has now entered the construction phase and Tamworth Arts and Events team want to share the journey with you as well as the theatre’s history and future. The aim of the exhibition is to give residents the opportunity to learn about local heritage and the history of the iconic Victorian building.

Tamworth Musical Theatre Company (formerly known as Tamworth Arts Club) presents this hit production set in 1985 when hair is huge, greed is good and rock-star wannabe Robbie Hart is New Jersey's favourite wedding singer. He's the life of the party, until his own fiancée leaves him at the altar. Shot through the heart, Robbie makes every wedding as disastrous as his own.
